- GRANDFATHERS POND -
As a young boy I would sometimes go to my grandfathers farm and help
with the chores. Afterwards we would walk several hundred yards past
his corn fields to the irrigation pond. There we would sit and talk about
school, sports, friends and life in general.
Sometimes while sitting and talking with my grandfather I would
pick up a rock and throw it into the middle of the pond. This would
cause ripples to start at the center and extend outward until the ripples
would cover the entire pond.
Now some forty years later I had almost but forgotten about
those long ago carefree days with my grandpa. When one day while out
for a afternoon walk I passed by a still small pond. I stopped and threw
a stone into the center of the pond and watched as the ripples took
effect. As I stood there very calm and quite I realized this rippling
effect was much like my life, although perhaps very small and
insignificant compared to the rest of the world, it did in fact over time have
a profound affect on my family, friends, neighbors, and community. We
must always remember that whatever we say or do, good or bad, does in
fact cause a rippling effect that reaches far beyond ourselves.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
