At 13 years old I began losing my balance and experiencing numbness in my legs, I knew something was terribly wrong. After becoming unable to walk, an emergency visit to the hospital revealed that I had Transverse Myelitis, an inflammation of my spinal cord.
Frightened and apprehensive about my future, I was admitted to Siskin Hospital. The caring staff quickly became family as they enabled me to cope with my illness, and more importantly, feel like a normal teenager again. They were there to help me learn to walk and care for myself and even surprised me with a birthday celebration.
Today, I am a recent high school graduate pursuing my dreams for a bright future. Recently, I lived out the ultimate teenage girl's dream when I was crowned Homecoming Queen. It was the highlight of my senior year and one more proof that my life has endless possibilities.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
