Tayhler Murphy
Miss A.
5/22/14
I walk through the halls passing faces that I’m somewhat familiar with. Quickly dodging everybody that nearly runs into me, I make my way into class before the late bell rings. As I walk into class I see my friends that I met at the beginning of the year. Suddenly, I see myself back at Sanders Elementary, in fourth grade, my most important memory.
“I don’t want to go school here Virgie! The kids might hate me.” I complained trying to free my captured arm from my aunt’s hulk- like strength. I was to attend this school called Sanders Elementary to finish my fourth grade. I didn’t want to go but I also didn’t want to be a bother to my parents. They worked all day long and my younger siblings went to day care.
“Tayhler Elizabeth Murphy, please just be a good girl for your teacher,” she scolded. I was met with the cool rush of air as we entered the old looking building. The walls were covered in newly painted white walls decorated with traditional items. Soon after a lady that looked like she was in her mid-40’s came walking towards us. Her long braided hair hovered over the floor as she guided the way to my class.
Opening the door she motioned the teacher over. “Sorry to disturb your class Miss Anderson but this is Tayhler, she’ll be your new student.” Soon after her sentence ended she left. My aunt Virgie talked to the teacher. I looked past my aunt’s leg and stared at all the other children. They all sat in groups of their own playing with the equipment they had. “Class, this is the new student Tayhler, she comes from the city Salt Lake in Utah, please be kind to her,” Miss. Anderson announced. I already knew I was not going to be liked.
I sat at my table with four other kids. They were talking amongst themselves, ignoring me. “Hey did you see that one episode of SpongeBob when they sing that campfire song?” asked Tyler to his friend Merlin, who replied with a nod. I knew the cartoon SpongeBob just as I knew the Power Puff Girls! “I saw that episode the other day,” I said looking at my team. They all stopped what they were doing and looked at me shocked. “What would you know, city girl,” Said Tyler rudely. “Shouldn’t you be at home studying?” Neshi glared at me t., “I bet she thinks she’s better than everybody else. Her clothes probably cost more than it should be.” Merlin laughed. “Yeah little miss city girl!” they called.
I hated everybody on my table. They were total jerks! This kept going on for the next two weeks. I didn’t want to say anything to my aunty or parents, it was my own problem. I sat outside drawing in my sketch book in the shade under the tree located a few feet from the playground. “Hey I like your drawings, they’re awesome!” yelled a new voice. I looked at the owner. Her hair was so long that it passed her hips and she had pale skin for a Native American. “. . . Thanks,” I whispered trying to blend in with the grass. “I’m Shayna, and you?” she asked. “My names Tayhler,” I said as I scooted over as she plopped down next to me. We talked for the rest of lunch chatting. I felt like I made a new friend for the first time. I felt like my fourth grade would be great this time.
I smile to myself as I sit down in my ninth grade class in period 4A. I have so many friends more than I’ve ever had. Since me and Shayna last met was in the last quarter of eight grade. I felt vibrate in my pocket as I hurried to finish my starter. “Hey Baka how’s you’re day? Mines great, I just hate math... (‘w’)” I stare at the message on my phone and I smile at the memories we shared.
