Vengeance Solves Nothing
In my welding class, nearly every day, a group of punks walk up to me and start screwin’ around like a bunch of monkeys. They make fun of me, nudge me, and don’t stop bugging me. The rage inside of me boils like that of a volcano. Only one man can share this feeling: Kratos, the God of War! All throughout his life, the gods of Olympus have made his life a nightmare. He’s also my personal hero.
The first hardship Kratos was faced with is Ares. Ares tricked Kratos into killing his own family to “Make him a great warrior,”. (He succeeded!) Kratos murdered Ares and became the new God of War. But the power to kill a god is not without its weaknesses. The biggest one though, having to fight Zeus.
With Kratos now being able to kill any god, as well as living on Olympus, Zeus had to kill ‘em. But Kratos must be full of helium, cause he won’t stay down! Kratos simply climbs out of the hellish landscape of Hades and seeks out the Titans, a race of giants who used to rule the world. He tells them of his plight and says, “Will you assist me in ending the reign of the gods?” The Titans accept and gather at the bottom of Olympus. They then begin the long climb upward.
I’d like to say Zeus responded properly. He sent some of the other gods to stop Kratos. But that ain’t slowing him down. Kratos kills the sea god Poseidon, and makes the ocean go nuts. Kratos kills the sun god Helios and permanently blackens the sky. He does not care and continues to Zeus.
Kratos finally gets to the sky god and begins the final showdown. He wins, and realizes what he has done. Twisters rage across the landscape as rain batters the terrain. The faint sound of screaming echoes all around. “What have I done…” Kratos whispers to himself. Out of his blood fueled rage, Kratos can now see anger only causes destruction.
It was because he tried to fight his oppressors, did I learn this lesson from Kratos. One action led Kratos on an epic journey that amounted to nothing. He gained nothing, but lost everything to his own blinded rage. This is a lot like my situation. Fighting can only make things worse. Kratos is my hero because he showed me rage is a powerful thing that can cause no good.
