Sacrifice
During the 2nd semester of 9th grade, there was a new kid in our math class. The new girl was introducing herself to me. “My name is Kaehalani,” she told me. “Oh….my name is Mckayla,” I responded. She mentioned she was from the Islands of Samoa and it immediately reminded me of when my mom sacrificed everything to come to the main land for a better life.
My mom was like two months pregnant with me. She came to the U.S to give birth to me because the hospitals were more improved than American Samoa’s hospital. A month after we moved back to American Samoa. There she taught me to always help others and to respect them. I had the best childhood ever! I only went to kindergarten in Samoa.
The only thing that my mom was worried about was my education and my future career. My mom taught me to always be good in school and to not slack. When I was 6 years old we moved from Samoa to San Francisco. From San Francisco we moved here to Utah, where I am currently living. To this day my mom sacrifices so much for me!
My education is what is most important to mom! Once a week when I get off from school she asks “How are your grades?” My answer is simple, “They’re good.” That is my motivation for to strive to do better when I caught myself taking advantage of her. (I don’t do it on purpose). I am my mom’s heart and she sure is my heart!
Without a father figure in my life, my mom takes that role into her hands and does it better than anyone else! My mom is like Superwomen and Superman put together! She never fails to be the greatest mom! Knowing that I am the only child, I do get spoiled a lot! Every birthday my mom never fails to make it exciting! I love her for everything that she has done and sacrificed for me! I do tell her “I love you!” every single day, because I do! Thanks to my mom, we are living happily and I am living the best life a teenager could have!
As I was reminiscing about that, Kaehalani asked me “Have you ever been to Samoa?” I took a moment to realize that she was asking me a question. “Actually I lived there!” I answered. We start to converse about Samoa and how it is. Kaehalani than told me that her mom brought her to the U.S for education. “What a coincidence!” I said with excitement! I explained her story and sooner or later we were friends till this day!
