Best Friend and Kyle

Today, on this lazy Saturday, I am laying on my couch listening to music on Pandora when ‘Just a Picture’ by KYLE came on. I got super happy and yelled “Oh my gosh, KYLE!” This crazy moment of mine made me think of my best friend, Nayely. Since we both have this obsession with him. He’s is one of the greatest. Since I already had both KYLE and Nayely in mind, it made me think of the day Nayely and I in line waiting to buy KYLE concert tickets the day of the concert from a couple of weeks ago.

Nayely and I were super ready for this concert so straight after school we rode the Trax downtown to get to The Venue where the concert was taking place. After getting off the Trax we were walking looking for as fast as we could because it was starting to rain. Then we found it. The first thing we saw was the big line of loud people waiting outside wearing colorful clothing. The second thing was the average sized, orange building that had a sign saying “The Venue: Super Duper KYLE Tonight”. We couldn’t have been more excited. As we were waiting, money in our pockets and ready to go, we noticed that there was this girl giving us mean looks standing right behind us. We didn’t think anything of it. We were too excited for KYLE.

After standing in line for about an hour or two, Nayely needed to use the bathroom. Shoot. “Ami, I need to pee” Nayely said to me. “Really Nayely? We’ll lose our spots.” She just gave me a look as if she were saying ‘Do you want me to pee my pants?’ I sighed and started walking out of the line to go to the bathroom when I saw the girl behind me looking at us with a slight smirk. Again, i didn’t think anything of it. We just walked off to the bathroom.

While standing in the bathroom waiting for Nayely, i heard her scream. “Why are you screaming? Whats wrong?” I asked her. “I dont have the money.” I nearly died. “What do you mean? Did you flush it down the toilet?!” I was so mad. “No. I’m positive that I didn’t. Last time I remember having it was in line” she said so we ran straight back to The Venue. Lets hope it’s still there. When we finally got to The Venue, we noticed that the loud line of people was nowhere to be found. Same goes for our money. It wasn’t there.

By now it was around 7:45 pm and we were sitting in front of the building, listening to the opening acts from outside and watching the colorful lights coming from the open door. Too bad there were two guards and too bad we didn’t have any money. All of a sudden, Nayely starts to rant. Things like “we are good people” and “this shouldn’t be happening to us” and “That girl probably stole our money” and “this isn’t fair” and “I better not cross paths with her again” started pouring out of her mouth. Since i was in the same position as her, i agreed. Soon we both were frustrated, angry, sad, and disappointed. This day had went from being the best day to the worst in about 2 hours.

After we were both tired of screaming, we sat there in silence up until we heard “Okay everyone, GIVE IT UP FOR KYLE!” and a lot of cheering following afterwards. Nayely and I just turned to look at each other with a blank look on our faces. Then we heard his first song start playing. Obviously, we couldn’t help ourselves; we started crying. Nayely soon calmed down and called her parents so they could come pick us up.

Before they arrived, she told me to look happy so her parents won’t know we didn’t go. If they were to find out she would’ve gotten in so much trouble for losing all that money. So the car ride back to my house I had to have this fake smile onto my face while Nayely was trying to comfort me. Right before I got out of the car she held me back and told me “Don’t worry. Just go to sleep listening to his music. I’m sure he’ll come again and if he doesn’t, we’ll see him in California when we move” Surprisingly, this brought a smile to my face. “Okay. I will. See you tomorrow and thanks for the ride” I told her as i walked away.

Coming back to reality, I realized how great of a friend Nayely was and is. Although she wanted to cry a lot more that night, she calmed herself down and comforted her friend in need. Me. I was being very dramatic and acting like a crazy fangirl. And instead of laughing at me, she told me to 'keep my head up' because it will all be okay. I would’ve never thought my rude friend was capable of doing that one small act of kindness. Although it didn't seem like much, it helped a lot. That night I went home disappointed but ended up being happy. I’m glad I have a friend like her.
