Sacrifices
I’m searching for some papers for class. When all of a sudden I find some throwback pictures of my family. I’m distracting myself from searching for the paper. I’m looking through the picture I find a picture of my mom with my grandma. I saw how happy they both looked. It’s one of my moms favorite picture. As I’m going searching for more pictures. My mom treasures all the pictures she has with her family. Since it’s the only way she can see them even though the photos are old. I see some that we taken when my mom was leaving. All of a sudden I remember what she told me and my family she had to do to get where she is right now.
She began telling me the story with her getting married with my dad. She got pregnant and she was talking to my grandma and grandpa about moving. She said she wanted to move to the US for a better life. My grandpa didn't agree with her to move to the US. She can see him turn like a red tomato of how angry he was. My moms stomach was getting a little bigger. She felt like a big round ball. After my dad, mom, and grandma convinced him, he let her move. My mom was happy but was sad that she had to leave them behind. She needed to make a sacrifice for her and her kid.
When they first got to Utah they felt like if they were in a whole different world. She told me it was way different from what she expected it to be. She felt like she didn't belong there. They moved in with my dad's brother since they didn't have money. My mom started working at a restaurant with my dad everyday. A year later got pregnant again and had me. After both working hard they earned money to buy their own house. Soon my mom started feeling lonely without her family. My dad told he it was for the best and told her to think about the future. She said it was fitting in with people that made it hard because she didn't know any English. What made her stayed was she saw us happy. She saw us getting a better education and that made her feel better.
I snap back into reality I have a cheesy smile on my face. I go to the room where my mom is. I’m thanking her for all the things she’s done for me. I don’t know where I would be if my mom didn't make that decision. Even though I know my mom misses her parents and since she can’t go see her parents we’re planning to go this year to Mexico. I remind her that at the end of the day it was all worth it. I like making her proud for the good grades I get. I’m proud to call her my mom she went from knowing nothing about English to knowing a lot more than she could think of. I can never thank her for all the sacrifices she has made for me. My mom is teaching me to do better for a better future and more opportunities. With this experience in general I’m learning that in life you have to make sacrifices for a better future.
