My hero was the first born to a migrant share cropper and wife. His father passed away when he was six and he was left to help his mother with three younger sisters and one on the way. The youngest of the three died and when the baby was born, she died as well. Both died of starvation. He fought to live each day, helping his mother and sisters. Finally, when he turned 18 he joined the Army to support his family. He sent what he could of his checks back to his mother until she remarried and was able to better support herself. He had to drop out of school when his father died so he obtained his GED in the Army. He met my mother and they married and raised two boys, sending the oldest, me, to college and saw my younger brother work his way up the corporate ladder of a large company. We have both succeeded due to the endurance and love of our parents. After 55 years of marriage his wife, my mother, passed away. He still endures and has taken over all the things my mother used to do. His endurance and strength among the most difficult of situations has inspired me my entire life. I cannot think of a better hero.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
