Sadly, I do not remember my hero's name. She went to preschool briefly with me in Calgary, Alberta.
Like most children, I did not understand the concept of sharing. If I wanted something, I would kick and scream until I got it. Looking at children now, I see that they're generally the same way.
But this girl was different.
If we were playing and I wanted her toy, she would gladly give hers up and choose another. She was constantly smiling and would always give me small reminders of our friendship. For example, one Valentine's day she brought me a heart with a sweet message it. It didn't even faze her that I never brought things for her and was extremely stubborn when it came to sharing.
It may seem ridiculous that I would remember such a thing, but I do. I have the worst memory in the world (I can't even remember her name!), but her actions have stuck with me my whole life.
I can only hope that she's extremely happy and successful and that one day I can find her and thank her for teaching me that life is not about THINGS, but rather people, compassion and love.
I only wish I could have understood the amazing lesson she was teaching me earlier.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
