As a foreigner, I am grateful for my College Medger Evers for giving me the opportunity to accomplish something beyond expectation "my degree" and to be the first in my family to make my beloved mother proud.

The college video gets to me every time. My dad unfortunately started struggling with an addiction to drugs in 2008. He started being abusive towards me, more emotionally than physically, in 2010, and when my parents divorced in 2011, he despised me. I believe he blames me for the divorce because I finally broke down and told my mom everything. He says we are both crazy, but the reality is, he is blinded by mind altering drugs. He will no longer answer my phone calls. The last time I went up to his door, to invite him to a church play I would be starring in and a revival I would be singing at, he was shaking, broke out, and was so skinny that when I hugged him I could feel every bone in his spine. I haven't spoken to him since, although I did find out on Facebook that he gave my entire inheritance , a large farm with a house, barn, garage, trailer and multiple fields, to a woman he has only been dating for a couple of years, with no intent of ever marrying. My gratitude falls in the arms of my loving mother who has stand beside me throughout everything that I have been through. Even though no one will ever fill the blank space that my dad left, she tries her hardest to play the role of mother and father. She truly is nuturer and provider in our house. I am also so grateful to have a God that will never forsake me. He has been holding my hand ever since the first day that my dad tried to hit me, and he still hasn't let go. Even with all I have been through, how could I not be grateful?

I am grateful for a peaceful mind today. A rest from anxious thoughts, negative; unproductive thinking, worrying about all the "what if's". I am so grateful for this site of positive living in this insane world.
